What will we be doing?
The subject will be chosen by you, and you can work in a medium
of your choice. You tell me what you want to learn and how you
want to develop your work. Don’t worry if you are not sure I
will help you to make these decisions. People often come having
done nothing since school and I show them how to get started,
others have already been painting a while but want to know how
to develop their work further. The classes are very small (never
more than eight) so you will get lots of individual attention.
Will I miss anything by not coming to all three days?
With my help and support you will be working on your own
individual project. You will also have seven other people around
you working on other areas that interest them; you may want to
learn a specific water colour techniques whilst the person
sitting next to you may be exploring colour. You will find you
will gain much from working in such a stimulating environment.
Yes you will miss things, but better to come to one or two than
miss it all.
I
feel a bit nervous and I’m worried that I won’t be able to do
it.
What ever you choose you will always be working in your own pace
and there is absolutely no competition. There isn’t a ‘right’
way to be creative, so you can’t really do it wrong. In my
experience, where things seem to go ‘wrong’, is when people try
to work in a way that doesn’t suit them. Nobody can work in
‘your style’, with your tastes and preferences, in a way that
suits your personality, better than you. The key is to be true
to yourself, and part of my role, is to help you do that.
The groups are very small and friendly and you will always get a
warm welcome.
Does
Samantha offer guidance for art students?
For younger students, Samantha has had many
years experience teaching 'A' level pre-degree and art college
foundation courses, she is therefore able to offer advice and
expertise for those putting a portfolio together in preparation
for entry to Art College.
Does
Samantha offer individual tuition?
Samantha
also offers Individual Tutorials. Telephone or
email to discuss your requirements and book your time.
Where do the art classes take
place and how many people attend?
All workshops take place in Samantha Dadd's purpose built studio in Conderton. Samantha welcomes complete beginners and experienced painters alike.
Her classes are small so everyone gets lots of individual attention.
What are Samantha's teaching
qualifications?
After graduating in Fine Art, Samantha Dadd B.A. (hons) P.G.C.E.A., did a one year full time post graduate teacher training course at the University of Surrey.
This together with 25 years teaching experience provides a
unique and stimulating adult learning environment.
Above all however, it is Samantha's positive energy and enthusiasm that makes the classes so enjoyable
and why students return time and time again.
What do I need to bring with me.
I
supply all the materials and equipment and this is included in
the cost. You will not receive a list of things to buy. People
often waste a lot of money buying stuff at a time when they are
not sure what they need or how they like to work. Here you have
a chance to try things first. As time goes on you may find that
you want to put your own kit together and bring it in with you
each time. Either way is fine – do what ever suits you best.
We break in the middle for about half an hour for lunch – so
bring some food with you. I supply teas and coffee etc
throughout the day.
If you have any examples of past work it would be great if you
could bring them along. However good or bad you think it is, it
is always useful to me to see your work so that I can get an
idea of the best way to move forward and how I can best help
you. It doesn’t have to be in the medium you wish to work in; I
have had people bring along photographs of textile work, cake
decorating and floral arrangements that have helped me to
discover strengths that can be translated into painting, and
drawings that have led into textile designs. You like to bring
pictures of art that you like or photographs that appeal to you
so that I can start to get an idea of the sort of things that
you are drawn to. Don’t worry if you haven’t got anything or
haven’t got time to sort it out – I have loads at the studio
that would be fun to look through together when you get here.
